Weherahena Buddhist Temple

Weherahena Poorwarama Raja Maha Viharaya is situated in the Matara District of Sri Lanka, about 6 kilometers off the Matara town. This rather unique temple is known as the first tunnel temple in the world. The temple hosts a massive 130-ft Buddha image that was built following the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa eras and also consists of all main features of a Buddhist temple- the pagoda, a sacred bo-tree and Samadhi Buddha statue. The walls of the temple are adorned with with Buddha murals. According to the historical records, the tunnel temple paintings narrate the Jātaka tales (legends) of Ummagga Jathaka and Umandawa.

Wewurukannala Vihara

Wewurukannala Raja Maha Viharaya, this sacred Buddhist temple is located 1.5 kilometers from Dikwella towards Beliatta. The main attraction of the temple is the 160-ft tall statue of seated Buddha. It is the largest statue in the whole of Sri Lanka and dates back to the late 18th Century. The temple has another section named the Tunnel of Hell. It features life-sized models of devils, demons and sinners going through the torments and horrors of hell. The temple walls show you the path towards enlightenment by depicting hundreds of comic strip representations of events in the Buddha’s life.

Bundala National Park

Visit Bundala National Park which is the first declared Ramsar wetland site of Sri Lanka. Watch the giant flocks of greater flamingoes that visit Bundala. Explore the seven terrestrial habitat types and six wetland types of area within the park and learn more about them.

Yala National Park

This amazing Safari offers the opportunity to visit Yala National Park, the second largest in the island based off the Southeastern coast of Sri Lanka. Get a chance to see the famous Sri Lankan leopards, indigenous wild water buffalo, Sri Lankan Sloth Bear and large herds of Sri Lankan Elephants. The park is also home to many other species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates.

Day 1 Galle > Wilpattu > Anuradhapura

You will start off your 2 Day tour from Galle which is the southern capital famed for its Fort and sea food industry. You will travel to the Wilpattu National Park and enjoy a 3 hour long safari where you will have the chance to witness the endangered yet sneaky Sri Lankan Leopard and the ever so famous Sri Lankan elephant. Since the park is the oldest in Sri Lanka and has many lakes, you will encounter hundreds of wild life including rare and migratory birds. TO end the day, you will head towards Anuradhapura.

Wilpattu National Park

Feel the call of the wild with the Wilpattu National Park Safari. Get a chance to catch sight of the elusive Sri Lankan Leopard and famous Sri Lankan Elephant. See hundreds of other wildlife such as deer, buffalo, monkeys, crocodiles, and rare birds. Get the photographs of a lifetime as you become one with nature.

Day 2 Anuradhapura > Mihintale > Galle

Day 2 will take you to the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery which is a regal part of the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Walking
amidst the ruins, pagodas and monastic architecture will take you back centuries where great Kings once ruled the country. From Anuradhapura, you will be transported to the sacred grounds of the Mihintale Temple known as the start off point of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Stupas, dagobas and various ruins of historical relevance.

Mahamevnawa Dhammachethiya Buddhist Monastery Anuradhapura

Walk through the ancient ruined city of Anuradhapura, which was the capital for over a millennium until the 10th century AD. View the pagodas, monastic buildings and ponds that are scatter all over the vast area. Visit important landmarks such as Jetavanarama, which was one of the tallest buildings of the ancient world, the Sri Maha Bodhi and the ruins of the huge Abhayagiri Monastery. Gain more knowledge about Sri Lanka's history as you walk in the footsteps of Kings.
