You will be provided with the traditional bamboo rods and a local fisherman will accompany you to guide you to the best spots and provide assistance if required. You will be taking a canoe out onto the water. The Parakrama Samudra was a 12th century creation of King Parakramabahu I. The monarch was a great engineer and had quite a few architecturally advanced monuments created in his time. While creating the reservoir, the king is said to have declared that he would not allow 'even a single drop of rainwater to escape to the sea without it having been of use to mankind'. The Sea of Parakrama is formed by interconnecting three separate reservoirs with narrow channels.
You will be able to fish mainly for Tilapia species in the reservoir, since it seems to be predominant. In addition to fishing you can also enjoy the amazing views of the surrounding landscape. The Knuckles Range will be visible in the distance. In addition, you can watch birds and the other wildlife such as elephants, monkeys and deer that visit the reservoir.
